On July 14, 2024, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also known as Sheikh Fazza, was appointed as the UAE’s Minister of Defense. This significant milestone in his political and military career sees him succeeding his father, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who had held the position since the UAE’s formation in 1971.

Sheikh Hamdan is known for his dynamic leadership and strategic vision. As the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, he has played a pivotal role in developing the city into a global business and financial hub. His new role as Minister of Defense strengthens his commitment to national security and the military development of the UAE.
In recent years, Sheikh Hamdan has launched several major initiatives, including the “Dubai Global” project in 2022, aimed at establishing 50 commercial representative offices for Dubai across five continents. This project seeks to support Dubai-based businesses and reinforce the city’s position as a global commercial hub.
In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Sheikh Hamdan is a passionate advocate for health and wellness. He is the founder of the “Dubai Fitness Challenge” an annual initiative encouraging residents to engage in daily physical activity for 30 days.
Recently, Sheikh Hamdan chaired the first meeting of 2024 for the Higher Committee for Development and Citizens Affairs in Dubai. During this meeting, he approved several resolutions and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for Dubai’s citizens, including housing, social solidarity, and social services. He emphasized the importance of creative, sustainable, and proactive projects to meet the future needs of Dubai’s residents.
