Thierry Henry, Gerard Piqué, Ronaldinho and other football legends recently visited Abu Dhabi to take part in the ‘Clash of the Legends’, a special event organised during NBA Fan Appreciation Day on 5 October 2024.
This unique event, held at the Etihad Arena, saw these iconic footballers swap the football pitch for a 3×3 basketball match. Henry, Piqué and Ronaldinho formed a team to take on Luís Figo, Iker Casillas and Roberto Carlos.
Alongside the competition, fans were able to attend a concert by American rapper 2 Chainz and meet NBA stars such as players from the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets. The event demonstrated the growing global appeal of high-level sports, fusing the worlds of basketball and football for a memorable experience.
During their stay, the football legends also visited the Louvre Abu Dhabi, located on Saadiyat Island. This iconic museum, which houses a renowned collection of art and culture, allowed the players to discover another aspect of Abu Dhabi’s cultural wealth. It was a moment when art and sport came together.
