UAE : Three Days of Mourning Following the Passing of President’s Brother, Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

The brother of the UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, left us on Thursday. The loss of such a notable figure triggered a wave of mourning across the nation, announced officially by the Presidential Court.

In honor of his memory, flags will be lowered to half-mast across the country, a symbol of the profound sorrow shared by all. This period of mourning will last for three days, commencing on Thursday, July 27, and concluding on Saturday, July 29.

Prior to this, on Saturday, July 22, the Presidential Court had made public the news of Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed‘s health struggles. They had stated, “Our Representative of the Abu Dhabi Ruler, Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is currently facing a health crisis. We beseech Allah the Almighty to bless him with a speedy recovery.”

The late Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, born in 1965 in Al Ain, was named the Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi in June 2010. He served as the Undersecretary of the Department of Planning in Abu Dhabi and was a representative of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed held various other distinguished positions throughout his career, including being a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council (ADCED) and the Chairman of the Maritime Port Authority of Abu Dhabi. His contributions to the UAE will long be remembered and he will be deeply missed.
